The origin of optimistic is the word optimist, and its origin is the Latin optimum, meaning the best. Being optimistic, you know that things will turn out for the best. This does not mean that you should over exaggerate a possible outcome or even expect a certain outcome. Things will turn out for the best, whatever that may be.
